CH 378.06 · COMPETENCY UNITS

Western Governors University.

WGU has no weekly deadlines — only competency units and evaluators who either pass a submission or return it. Progress comes down to how quickly you can produce work that clears on the first attempt.

Repeated evaluator returns

Where WGU students get stuck — and what we do.

01

Evaluator returns

A return costs days. We check every rubric aspect — including the ones students skim — before you submit.
02

CU pacing

Terms end whether or not the units clear. We build a term plan and hold you to it with weekly check-ins.
03

Performance assessments

Task by task: each prompt answered explicitly, in the evaluator’s own order.
04

Objective assessments

Blueprint-based preparation and timed practice for the proctored exams.

Questions we are asked most.

What should I attach for a performance assessment?

The rubric with its aspects, the task instructions, and any evaluator notice you have already received. The notice is the single most useful document, because it names precisely where the last attempt fell short.

Is work priced per course or per assessment?

Per assessment. A competency unit value says almost nothing about the effort involved, and a short piece and a capstone can sit inside the same course. Quoting per course would overcharge some students and undercharge others.

Can several assessments be cleared in one term?

That is the usual request, and sequencing is part of what the slip covers. Ordering them by real effort rather than by course number, with the heaviest somewhere other than last, is worth more than working faster.

Is the capstone treated separately?

Yes. It is the longest piece in the degree and comes back more often than anything else, so the proposal, the artifact and the reflection advance separately, each checked against its own aspects before submission instead of afterwards.

Who prepares people for the invigilated papers?

Somebody credentialed in the subject, working from the published competency blueprint rather than from remembered item banks. Sitting a paper is not available at any price. What is available is timed practice and a careful reading of what went wrong and why.
